What if US Senators and heads of national security agencies were found to have sworn oaths of loyalty to Iran or China?

The bill Obama signed into law on December 31st called the Indefinite Detention Bill, now called the National Defense Act of 2012, which suspends habeas corpus protection of US civilian citizens in their own country at the behest of that bastard child of false flag 911 - Homeland Security - was authored and presented by Michigan Senator Carl Levin. Senator Levin holds dual citizenship as an Israeli.

"What's wrong with that? Israel is our Ally", most Americans would say. I used to believe that. But the history of US/Israeli relations relative to Israeli relations with other nations tells another story.

Israeli foreign policy has a history of covert operations directly counter to the national interests and domestic welfare of the United States dating back to 1961.

This is conflict of interest. Conflict of interest occurs when an individual or organization in a position of public trust is involved in multiple interests, one of which could possibly corrupt the motivation for an act in the other. Questioning dual citizenship of elected officials is in no way antisemitism. The issue is conflict of interest pure and simple.

This has nothing to with being 'anti-Israel' any more than questioning dual Chinese-American citizenship senators would be. The same would apply if the senator that introduced this bill had Iranian, Chinese, or Russian dual citizenship. I don't believe dual citizenship with any other nation should be allowed for US legislators, Federal bureaucrats, Federal Judges, US military personnel, or any position of influence of national security.

There's nothing wrong with a doctor, a banker, or teacher having dual citizenship. They aren't in positions of public trust. It's entirely inappropriate for a public servant.

Sen. Levin is chairman of the Armed Services Committee. That means he is empowered with legislative oversight of the nation's military, including the Department of Defense, military research and development, nuclear energy (as pertaining to national security), benefits for members of the military, the Selective Service System and other matters related to defense policy. In addition he is ex-officio on the Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs, and Select Committee on Intelligence. This man has control of the most powerful military in the world.

The US presidential election campaign that kicked off January 3 with the Iowa caucuses was the subject of a curious article attacking President Barack Obama in the mass circulation Israeli daily newspaper, Israel Hayom.

“US President Barack Obama is ‘naïve’ and needs to face up to the threat presented by the rise of the Muslim Brotherhood across the Middle East, Israel’s National Security Council concluded during a strategic discussion several days ago,” Israel Hayom reported.

The Israeli National Security Council consists of Benjamin “Bibi” Netanyahu’s closest advisers. And Israel Hayom is not just another right-leaning Israeli tabloid. Referred to by Israelis as the “Bibiton,” or Bibi’s mouthpiece, the paper is an instrument that gives him extraordinary political leverage. The obviously planted article in Israel Hayom rang like a bell sounding the start of Netanyahu’s own campaign in helping the Republican Party oust Obama from the White House.

Israel Hayom’s genesis demonstrates the depth of Netanyahu’s connections in Republican circles. It was created by one of Netanyahu’s top financial supporters, a Las Vegas-based casino tycoon named Sheldon Adelson, who is also a major donor to the conservative wing of the Republican Party. Adelson’s closest relationship is with former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich, a longtime ally of Netanyahu who has been running a rancorous campaign for the Republican presidential nomination.

Netanyahu’s less than subtle intervention has become an open issue in Israeli politics. Opposition leader Tzipi Livni of the Kadima Party has criticized Netanyahu for damaging the US-Israeli relationship. “Netanyahu spoke about consensus,” Livni said in May, “and if there is a consensus in Israel, it's that the relationship with the US is essential to Israel, and a prime minister that harms the relationship with the US over something unsubstantial is harming Israel's security and deterrence.”

But Livni’s warning has been ignored. Rather than hesitating, the prime minister and his inner circle are moving full steam ahead in their political shadow campaign whose ultimate goal is to remove Obama. Bibi’s war against Obama is unprecedented. While Israeli prime ministers have tried to help incumbent presidents, none have ever waged a full-scale campaign to overthrow them.

Netanyahu has engaged enthusiastic allies in the Republican Congress, led by House Majority Leader Eric Cantor, and within the right-wing media. His neoconservative allies in Washington are launching a “Super PAC” to generate emotional attack ads against Obama and any candidate that might be an obstacle to his policies. And his campaign has even broadened into an attempt to discredit the New York Times, whose editorial page and foreign policy columnists, Thomas Friedman and Roger Cohen, have been critical of him.

Netanyahu’s shadow campaign is intended to be a factor in defeating Obama and electing a Republican in his place. He opposed Obama’s early demand to freeze settlements on the West Bank as a precondition for reviving the peace process, a process since the Oslo Accord that Netanyahu has attempted to stall or sabotage, despite his signing of the Wye Agreement under pressure from President Clinton. Since his adamant stand against the settlement freeze, Netanyahu has undermined every effort to engage the peace process. He appears dead set on consolidating Greater Israel, or what many Israelis call “Judea and Samaria,” and has signaled a strong desire to attack Iran.

By all accounts, Netanyahu’s personal chemistry with Obama is toxic. Obama bristles at his belligerence. But Netanyahu’s hostility has reaped rewards from him, having stopped the peace process in its tracks. The latest effort by the Quartet seems doomed to failure. And Netanyahu’s rejectionism has put Obama on the defense. Most of the US Jewish establishment has remained a bulwark for Bibi’s policies. Officials cite internal memos, classified of course, from the 2007 and 2008 investigation into the allegations, which found that in reality the people who bought off Jundallah were Mossad agents, with faked US passports and large amounts of US dollars.

Clearly a proverbial Ship of Fools, you may say. And laugh, were it not that you yourself are sailing in it.

So what kind of flawed thinking made this disastrous state of affairs possible? For one, a disposition that seems to lack common sense as we know it. Second, and consequently, the certainty to be better than anybody else, by divine decree or with regard to one’s bank account. And lastly, a ruthless and reckless mentality that all but scoffs at the moral restrictions prevalent in our Christian European society.

The three rolled into one are a secure receipt for ruin.

Take the Boskies, Milkens, Fulds or Madoffs. Particularly the latter seems on the surface an intelligent man. Yet why did he believe that his massive criminal scheme could last forever and not land him one day in jail, a sad place to live out one’s final years, especially if accustomed to mountains of luxury?

Because he and his kind can’t look any further than the next street corner. Just think of the forty or so Mossad operatives who descended on Dubai to knock off one poor Palestinian, all with their photos and false passports copied, all with their covers blown for a long time to come. Or those thugs who boarded the Peace Flotilla in international waters and gunned down nine unarmed men. Did they anticipate the worldwide outcry that erupted only the next day?

Another fine example is the recent defeat of that saintly crook Michail Khordokowsky and his illustrious backers, among them Mr. Obama, Frau Merkel, the old trollop BBC and many others, all seething with indignation at Russia’s unashamedly inhuman and undemocratic behaviour. To tell you the truth, I was rather worried when a revision of the man’s sentence were to be considered during a new trial. Would Vladimir Putin and his friends stand firm and not fold in at the knees? Could Mother Russia continue to be one of the last Western countries ruled by free men and not some alien mammon moguls like everywhere else?

Well, we know the result. That youthful prodigy who tricked old man Yeltzin out of YUKOS, the national oil company worth billions of dollars, by paying him a pittance borrowed from Lord Rothschild, had his greedy claws slapped with a few more years in the cooler. And a lenient verdict it is if you consider that the crazy bugger had tried to grab the country’s presidency himself by buying every Duma member in reach, and after selling off nearly half of the expected booty to the aforementioned Lord and his American chums.

In short, another enormous miscalculation that backfired badly and thus underlines the general argument.

To this day I remember my consternation when reading many years ago in the NYTimes a column by one Roger Cohen, a rambling schmuck styling himself a Globalist of all things, who tried to convince everyone that making China rich was good for America. Even then, and naïve as I still was, I still thought that the silly man must be out of his mind. Well, he wasn’t, as we know now. Perhaps it should be no surprise that some of the same criticisms that met Jonathan Safran Foer’s novel about Sept. 11, “Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close,” published in 2005, are now being leveled against the new film adaptation. Like the book, the film has drawn strong, often biting rebukes from critics who feel it exploits some of Sept. 11’s most harrowing images—the picture of the falling man leaping to his death, in particular—and universalizes a unique tragedy.

Few have been more lacerating than The New York Times’ Manohla Dargis, who wrote in her review that the film has “no reason for being other than as another pop-culture palliative for a trauma it can’t bear to face. … Yes,” she went on, “you may cry, but when tears are milked as they are here, the truer response should be rage.”

Dargis was not alone in her fury. In fact, several reviews made two similar critiques over and over: one, the film universalized a unique tragedy, and two, it exploited a historical trauma. You begin to wonder, Where have I heard this before? For me, at least, the answer was in the critical reaction to movies about the Holocaust. One need only take a cursory look at the criticism of mainstream films like “Schindler’s List” and “Life Is Beautiful” to roll one’s eyes and think, I’ve heard this all before.

That’s not to say that some of the criticism of “Extremely Loud” is unjustified. I don’t buy the exploitation argument — perhaps the film and book are too sentimental, but I don’t think they’re disingenuous. I can say with certainty, however, that universalizing the Sept. 11 tragedy is a clear intention of both the film and the book...

Oddly, there is almost no mention of the Holocaust, aside from a very brief reference to a Jew that Oskar’s grandfather hid during the war. But Foer, a Jewish author, is no stranger to Holocaust fiction. His best-selling debut novel, “Everything Is Illuminated,” (also made into a film) told the story of a young American Jew, many of whose relatives were killed in the Holocaust, searching for his family’s past...MORE...LINK

Well Clawson had better put a sock in it, and quick, because now he’s given away the neocons’ game plan. From Laura Rozen’s piece on the negotiations:

Patrick Clawson, deputy director of research at the Washington Institute for Near East Policy, in an interview with Yahoo News Tuesday… said he didn’t think prospects for a deal look promising.

“I think it’s heading towards confrontation,” Clawson said. “The whole point from the beginning is if we put pressure on the regime, the Iranians will crack at some point.”

So far, at least, there’s little sign the strategy is yielding the desired result. The Iranians to date have responded to the prospect of the tightened financial sanctions on the country’s oil sector with an announcement of the launching of operations at the fortified, underground Fordo nuclear enrichment facility–together with sporadic threats to close the Strait of Hormuz. So why isn’t that a sign that the U.S. strategy is failing?

“It’s a lot better to have a fight” that Iran provokes, Clawson replied, before adding: “Better to enter World War II after Pearl Harbor, and World War I after the sinking of the Lusitania.”

With yet another Iranian nuclear scientist freshly assassinated--presumably by Israel--Jeffrey Goldberg asks a good question: Why is Israel doing this?

Goldberg thinks the most common answers are less than compelling. It's unlikely, he says, that "Iranian nuclear knowledge is so concentrated in the minds of a few scientists" that these killings are a major setback to the nuclear program. And he doubts that the killings will scare much Iranian talent out of the nuclear science business, since the Iranian government wouldn't tolerate such an exodus.

But there's a third option that Goldberg doesn't consider: Israel is trying to start a war with Iran. The more Iranian scientists it kills (and the more missile testing facilities it blows up), the more likely Iran is to retaliate. And things have a way of escalating, which would pave the way for military strikes on Iran's nuclear facilities.

Obviously, Israel could bomb Iran's facilities even without such escalation. But escalation offers two advantages:

1) Israel gets less blame, because it isn't accused of starting things. Of course, from Iran's point of view, Israel did start things by assassinating Iranians and blowing up Iranian stuff. But whether assassinating foreigners is bad depends on your point of view. In the eyes of the west and especially the United States, it's terrorism when Iran does it but not when Israel or America does it.

2) The United States is more likely to get drawn into the war. Israel presumably prefers that America do the lion's share of the bombing of Iranian nuclear facilities, since the U.S. has deeper strike capabilities. If Israel launched strikes on Iran out of the blue, while the U.S. still considered a diplomatic solution to the nuclear standoff possible, Israel couldn't count on the U.S. joining in. But America would certainly spring to Israel's defense if Israel found itself in an escalating war with Iran that Iran was blamed for starting. And once America was involved in hostilities, it would probably take the opportunity to set back Iran's nuclear program...MORE...LINK

I've interpreted these statements as meaning that Beinart is calling for voting rights for Palestinians in the West Bank-- in this post, for instance. But after I published that, Beinart tweeted that I'm wrong:

Fair enough. Beinart, who used to give private sessions to AIPAC audiences, and who employs a word (Pals) that offends some Palestinians, has always said that he's a Zionist. "I believe in Israel as a Jewish and a democratic state," he said in the Federations talk I trumpeted. This is a man who puts an Israeli flag in his kids' room.

Still: color me confused.

The "belief" in Israel as a Jewish and democratic state can more properly be described as blind faith given the fact that for 45 years Israel has controlled the lives of millions of people who don't have a right to vote. Israel's military induction policy is more racist than our army's induction policy of World War II. Israel's governing coalitions are as racist as the Jim Crow south. The utter dissonance between Jewish governance and democracy is truly the "crisis of liberal Zionism."

Again, though, this is not some fresh crisis. Hannah Arendt pointed this out in 1948 when Israel was founded in violence against Arabs. The Palestinian crisis has been continual since the Nakba. Today Palestinians under occupation are rightsless, while Palestinians in Israel say they are second-class citizens.

If he hopes to maintain his reputation for intellectual honesty, and speak to a wider audience than Jews whose blood runs blue and white, Beinart has a responsibility to explain: When is the Palestinian crisis going to end? What real likelihood is there of creating a viable Palestinian state, after 21 years of a sham peace process, and following a year in which Israel broke all records for settlement expansion?

How long should the Tamimi family--whose son Mustafa was killed merely for insisting that his village should have access to its only well-- have to wait for privileged American Zionists to work out their views of Israeli borders and constitution?

This is the problem inherent in Beinart's project. He has set out to resolve the contradictions between Jewish and democratic, sort of like a Soviet propagandist trying to resolve the contradictions between Communism and freedom in the 1980s. He feels Hollywood have used the pair as scapegoats and labelled them drug addicts and has-beens.

Corey said: 'Even today people say about me, "Eighties heartthrob; hasn't done anything since." The truth is I haven't stopped. Last year I did four films.
'Corey and I were pegged as the scapegoats... People need to know the reason Corey and I were swept under the carpet like the beaten dogs that were sent to the pound so no one had to deal with us anymore.'

Feldman first spoke out about his troubled past last year and he believes that is the reason why an anonymous former child actor claimed he had been abused by talent agent Martin Weiss.

He said: 'I stood up and said there is a bigger problem, that I'd lost Corey and that I didn't want to see any more kids lost to these sick perverts.'

Although Weiss, 47, did not abuse Corey, he is still helping the detective in charge of the case with investigations.
